Initial Month
7 CFR § 273.10(a)(1)(i)-(iii)
An initial month is the first month the household is approved for benefits after any period the household was not approved for, or receiving benefits.
Exceptions: Initial month for:
- Migrant or seasonal farmworkers is the first month the EDG is approved following a period of more than 30 days since the end of the EDG’s previous benefit period.
- Joint SSI and SNAP applications filed before the individual’s release from an institution is the month the individual is released.
EDGs applying on the first of the month and found eligible receive a full initial month’s benefits. EDGs applying after the first of the month and found eligible receive prorated benefits.
