Residency
7 CFR § 273.3(a)
The EDG must live in Connecticut when applying for SNAP. Individuals living in Connecticut for any reason meet the residency requirement, regardless of the length of time here or their plans to stay.
Exception: Individuals on vacation in Connecticut do not meet the residency requirement.
Note: Residency refers to Connecticut residency and not the mailing address. The EDG may have a new mailing address (change of address) and still maintain residency as long as they continue to live within Connecticut. This is because Connecticut is a statewide project area.
The EDG is not required to have a permanent dwelling or fixed residence.
For example, an individual still meets the residency requirement if the individual lives in a:
- car,
- camper,
- tent, or
- homeless shelter.
Note: Ask the EDG to provide a mailing address where notices can be mailed. The EDG may use any address as long as there is no threat of mail being lost or stolen.
For example, the address can be a friend or relative’s address or a post office box.
