7 CFR § 273.27(c) & 7 CFR § 273.29(a)-(f)


Do not issue a notice of adverse action when the current SNAP benefit period is shortened due to TBA beginning.


Issue a TBA approval notice to the EDG with the following information:

  • Eligibility for TBA.
  • The length of the TBA benefit period.
  • The EDG may apply for SNAP benefit renewal at any time during the TBA benefit period. 
  • A notice will be sent to the EDG to file a renewal application approximately 40 days before the end of the TBA benefit period if the EDG doesn’t apply for renewal earlier.
  • If the EDG applies for TFA during the TBA benefit period, the application will also be used as a SNAP application. 
  • An explanation of any changes in the benefit amount from the loss of TFA income. 
  • The EDG is not required to report or provide verification until renewal of any changes occurring during the TBA benefit period.
  • Reported changes will not be acted on during the TBA benefit period until renewal.  
  • The EDG should apply for renewal if any of the following changes occur:
    • Change in the EDG size
    • Decrease in income 
    • Increase in expenses
