7 CFR ยง 273.24(c)(1)


An ABAWD (able-bodied adult without dependents) is a person who is age 18 through 64 years of age, is able to work, and is not living with a child under the age of 14. For example:

  • The person is an ABAWD the month after the person turns 18.
  • The person is not an ABAWD the month the person turns 65. 


Review the status of existing and potential ABAWDs at:

  • application, 
  • PRF, and 
  • renewal.


ABAWDs are limited to 3 full months of SNAP benefits, unless they meet the ABAWD work requirements or an exemption.
