Categorical Eligibility 

7 CFR § 273.2(j)(2)(ii)(A)-(B) and (iii) and (v) and (4)(iii)(B) (ii)(A)-(B) and (iii) & 7 CFR 273.9(a)(1)


Regular Categorical Eligibility (RCE) EDGs do not have a gross or net income limit.


Expanded Categorical Eligibility (ECE) EDGs gross income must be below 200% of the FPL.  ECE’s do not have a net income limit.


Gross Income Limit

7 CFR 273.9(a)(1)(i)


The total of all non-excluded gross income of all EDG members must not be greater than the gross income limit for that EDG size unless:

Exception: The gross income limit applies if the only elderly or disabled member is ineligible.


When the EDG’s circumstances change and they become entitled to a different income limit, apply the new income limit whenever the EDG’s eligibility, benefit level, or benefit period changes, whichever occurs first.


Net Income Limit

7 CFR 273.9(a)(2)(i) 


The EDG’s net income cannot be greater than the net income limit for the EDG’s size, unless the EDG is categorically eligible.
